Menopause

The need for hormones in women often begins around menopause and peri-menopause. Menopause is the period in a woman’s life marked by cessation of a woman’s monthly menstrual cycle and signals the end of a woman's natural childbearing years. It is a natural and gradual process where female hormone glands change to produce lower and lower hormone levels.  Eventually the ovaries stop producing estrogen and progesterone, usually around age 52.

When women do not initiate a prompt estrogen replacement program at the time of menopause, they undergo accelerated aging manifested by osteoporosis, heart disease, loss of muscle mass, loss of skin elasticity and thickness, atrophy of the female genitalia, depression and slowed mental function.  Estrogen replacement therapy significantly delays or prevents this accelerated aging process seen in women following menopause.

Bio-Identical Estrogen replacement therapy:

Relives menopausal symptoms

Increases female life expectancy

Protects against coronary artery disease

Boosts brain function

Helps prevent osteoporosis

Protects against Alzheimer's disease

Progesterone is also a female sex hormone that keeps estrogen in balance and is therefore absolutely necessary in the female hormone replacement program regardless of whether a woman has a uterus or not.

Progesterone:

Is a natural Antidepressant

Is a natural Diuretic

Protects against cancer

Helps the body use fat rather than store it

Improves Libido

Helps prevent Osteoporosis

Boosts Thyroid function

Perimenopause

Perimenopause is the period of time in a woman’s life, as she slowly approaches menopause, marked by fluctuating hormones.  At times this period is 10-15 years before menopause. How early these symptoms are experienced can be multi-factorial in origin and affected by factors such as gastrointestinal disturbance, heavy metal toxicity, environmental toxicity, and genetics.  During Peri-menopause a woman’s hormone production may fluctuate wildly, causing undesirable symptoms such as water retention, weight gain, breast tenderness, irregular periods, fatigue, anxiety, moodiness, depression, and sleep problems.  These symptoms can be helped and corrected using appropriate bio-identical hormone replacement.  Dr. Rashel treats these symptoms after appropriate testing before and during treatment and with customized bio-identical hormones, nutritional supplementation, detoxification, and gastrointestinal restoration.
